First Soccer Game!

Today was J's first soccer game, and we are so proud of our little player!

Pregame practice:

J's biggest fan:

Gametime!:

He did a great job and played most of the game. I think he was pretty exhausted by the end. I'm really pleased with the YMCA's soccer program so far. Lots of fun for the kids, not too much pressure on them, and good team spirit!

Curls!

I thought it might be fun to talk a little bit about the boys' hair! They both have great hair, but it is very different from one another. In the summer, I was keeping their hair pretty short, but I've been letting it grow ever since school started, so now we've got some serious curl action going on!

Jeremy's hair is jet black and has a shiny gloss to it. In truth, the boy doesn't know the meaning of a bad hair day. His hair makes Patrick Dempsey's hair jealous. I took these photos of the boys one morning shortly after washing and styling it. He has curls that are tighter around his forehead and neckline/back of head, but looser loopy curls on top and on the sides.

Zachary's hair is dark, dark brown with tighter curls than Jeremy's. In fact, Zachary's curls might better be referred to as coils. I think his hair is cool because it forms natural "twists"!

The below pictures were taken after waking up in the morning. Jeremy's hair get's "bigger", but it doesn't really get frizzy. With just a spritz of water/lotion, he's back in business!

Zachary's hair on the other hand...well, let's just say that it gets the frizzies. Here is little dude with his morning "halo".  His hair can also be tamed by spritzing it with water and reapplying some styling cream.

I've tried several different products on their hair to see what produces the most defined curls without drying it out. And so far, the best thing I've found is Cetaphil cream. It comes in a tub, and I apply it to damp, towel-dried hair immediately after washing. It's been a great styling tool, because it gives it a "gelled" look without drying it out. In fact, it actually moisturizes the hair, which is what black hair always needs!

The Dude Can Wield a Lightsaber!

Christmas Day was a fun celebration, and I have a ton of photos, but this series is by far my favorite! Jeremy has never seen Star Wars, but the way he handled his new "flashlight sword" makes me think he might be training with Obi Wan Kenobi on the sly.

Thanks to Bucky and Elaine for giving him such a perfect gift!

Return: Volver

On Thursday, Rebeca (our summer nanny) will be returning to Spain to continue her university studies. What a fun summer we've had with her here! We took advantage of overcast skies and cooler temperatures today to do a photo shoot with her and the boys. Rebeca, thank you so much for all you've done for us this summer! You were wonderful with the boys and a great friend to me! We love you and will miss you so much!!!

Faux-Hawks!

I've noticed quite a few adorable faux-hawks being worn by little boys this summer. I've always been a fan of the faux-hawk, so I'm happy to see its resurgence this summer. Not one to miss out on a fun hair trend, I took the boys in to get these cool summer cuts!

I must say, they turned out quite cool indeed! After seeing their curls going down the center of their heads like this, I thought "fro-hawk" might be a more apropos name for their new look.  :)

"I got my car, my football, my muscle shirt and a cool new 'do. Don't mess with me!"

"I might have a rebel's haircut, but I'm still a cutie pie!"
